Properly winterizing your salt system is essential to ensure it remains in good working condition for the next season. Follow these steps carefully to avoid damage due to cold weather.
Step 1: Remove the Cell
-
Disconnect the Cell
- Carefully disconnect the cell from the system.
- Clean the Cell: Ensure the cell is thoroughly cleaned before storing it, using Sea Breezes Salt Cell Cleaner (1 L) or ACE Salt Cell Cleaner
- Storage: Bring the cell indoors for the winter to prevent any freezing or damage, and store in a safe place.
-
Prepare the O-Rings
- Remove the O-rings.
- Place the O-rings in a small bag and apply a light coating of lubricant to prevent the O-rings from drying out.
- Store the bag with the O-rings with your cell.
-
Seal the Open Ends of the Tubes
- Secure a bag over the open ends of the tubes to prevent any pests, such as mice, from entering.
Step 2: Protect the Computer Terminal
-
Tent the Computer Terminal
- Ensure the computer terminal is properly tented to protect it from the elements. Use a small tarp to cover the salt system terminal. Arrange the tarp in a tent shape over the terminal.
Ensure the edges of the tarp are pulled outward and secured to the ground, creating a triangular tent structure over the terminal. - If the unit is attached to the wall, you can use duct tape to secure the tarp to the wall, leaving the bottom open.
